The Mio Story

How We Started

Mio was founded by Lizzie King in 2007, born from her deep passion for interiors and fashion. What began as a personal endeavour - creating bespoke clothing and curtains for herself and friends, soon blossomed into a thriving business. As word spread, demand grew, and Mio evolved into a full-scale interiors company, providing exquisite designs and custom-made furnishings for hotels, restaurants and private residences across the UK and beyond.

Under Lizzie’s expert guidance, her dedicated team transforms spaces of all sizes, from charming countryside cottages to grand estates, with bespoke designs that reflect elegance and individuality.

Building on her love for both interiors and fashion, Lizzie’s latest venture, Mio Boutique, brings together carefully curated fashion, luxurious fabrics, unique gifts and more.  Nestled in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside, our stunning Black Barn offers a warm and inviting shopping experience.

At Mio, we pride ourselves on forging lasting connections with our clients, ensuring they return time and time again for timeless design, exceptional craftsmanship and unrivalled service.

Our Founder - Lizzie King

From a young age, my love for fashion and design was undeniable. On many Friday evenings, I would whip up a new skirt in just an hour, simply because I wanted something different to wear that night. Before long, I was making clothes for friends, then customers, creating everything from simple skirts to intricate bridal gowns.

One particularly memorable bridal gown required an enormous amount of fabric - so much that, to my horror, a massive spider suddenly emerged and ran across my chest! In sheer panic, both the dress and the spider went flying across the room. That moment aside, my love for design only grew stronger.

It wasn’t long before I turned my hand to curtain-making, and just as before, demand quickly followed. Friends became customers, and what began on small dining tables and the floor soon needed a proper workspace. First, a garage workshop, then a charming converted pigsty, then an industrial unit, and finally, a beautiful retail space where Mio Interiors and Mio Boutique now thrive.

More than two decades later, my passion for fashion and interiors is as strong as ever. I still love every aspect of design and production, from the initial spark of inspiration to seeing a space or an outfit come to life. Whether it’s styling a home or curating the perfect wardrobe, I’m dedicated to helping others express themselves with creativity, elegance, and authenticity.
